Major August News Events Drive Audience Growth for Right Wing Websites

September 27,  2023, New  York, NY – A strong news environment in August helped Foxnews.com and several other right wing websites post healthy gains in year-over-year (YOY) unique visitors.  According to TheRighting’s exclusive analysis of mobile and desktop traffic based on Comscore data for August 2023, Fox News attracted 77.8 milllion unique visitors, up 8% compared to August 2022 when it drew only 71.9 million.

Three prominent right wing websites saw its YOY traffic balloon by triple digits.  The Daily Signal experienced a 332% increase in its unique visitors, the largest gain of any conservative website.  Altogether, half of the websites in TheRighting’s top 20 posted traffic gains.

“The healthy traffic numbers for many right wing websites was driven by a news environment dominated by several major stories in what is usually a slow month,” said Howard Polskin, President, TheRighting.  “There were two Trump indictments, Tucker Carlson’s interview with Trump, the first GOP debate and the deadly fire in Maui.  News consumers responded by visiting news websites for the latest developments and analysis.”

Not all brands experienced gains.  Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform suffered its worst percentage decline ever, dropping 15% in a year.  Two of the three mainstream news websites TheRighting follows lost YOY audience: The New York Times brand (-10%) and the Washington Post (-16%).  CNN surpassed all news websites with128 million unique visitors in August, up 10% compared to the same period in 2022.
